Quick check-in heading to windjana gorge

Left the unbelievably fantastic purnululu this morning. Well update with details but suffice to say this may steal top spot of the trip so far. We got lucky with cooler days and nights so did 15km walks on the first day and 19 the second day. Yesterday we just did a small walk as the kids were a bit buggered!! What a place thou. Road in is rough a bit corrugated but we went slowly so all good. The scenery is out of this world. Way better in reality then any photos we've seen.

Off to windjana gorge today so big drive but then two nights there. Then a night at Mt Hart then 4 nights at Mornington and 4 nights at Charnley River and then we'll pop out back in Derby or Broome in 12 days! Even got some fresh fruit and veg at Halls creek whilst we queued for diesel as some local kids had bust up some of the fuel bowsers so 20 minute wait between the Caravans.

  1. When in Broome, check out the following:
    * Dinosaur Foot Print
    * Bird sanctuary for camping (if it's still a thing)

    If you decide to visit cable beach, beware of the entrance going into the ocean, closing early when the tide is coming in.

    If you have extra time, you might want to consider Cape Leveque.

    I hope Dunk got my map with points of interest.

    As you guys head south, there are a whole bunch of cool spots to visit:
    * 80 mile beach

    If you go through Port Hedland, check out the big salt mound.
    If Karratha and Dampier are along the way, there are a whole bunch of cool spots on the Burrup Peninsula.
    Ask at Dampier Transit Caravan park about: 40,000 year old rock art, Sams Island, Red Dog, Stairway to the Moon (if you miss it in Broome).

    The road from Karratha to Karijini is quite nice as you get to go past:
    * Python Pool
    * Millstream Chicester National Park (great for a swim).

    In Karijini make sure to also visit Hammersley Gorge Spa pool.

    Enjoy your time in WA

      Bird Observatory was fully booked even for tents but maybe the next time. Thanks for all the tips. Hoping to get to cape Leveque tomorrow.
